Czwarty Wymiar

"Cała sobą piszę do ciebie i czuję smak istnienia, a smak-ciebie jest równie abstrakcyjny jak chwila."

Clarice Lispector

Ach, ci pisarze...

Tymczasem z miłością i do następnego razu,

Wasz Miękiszon.

4th Dimension

"All of me is writing to you and I feel the taste of being and the taste-of-you is as abstract as the instant."   Clarice Lispector

Sometimes a single sentence, stumbled upon entirely by chance, will lead me to a book and a new writer. That is how it was with Clarice Lispector, who wrote: "I am afraid of writing. It is very dangerous. Anyone who has tried it knows."

When I read these words, my first thought was that perhaps the same is true of reading. And then, almost immediately afterwards, as I turned the first pages of her book Água Viva, I realised that these words could apply to every act of creation — from writing, through painting, all the way to dance.

Because art opens unexpected spaces, first within the artist and then within the person who follows in their footsteps — spaces that lead towards truths which are often surprising, sometimes even unsettling.

Should we be afraid of this? I don't know. In my own experience of art there has always been more wonder and curiosity than fear. I would even say that art frees me from fear, that it rescues me. But perhaps, perhaps this simply means that I am only swimming on the surface?

Lispector wrote that writing is like a stone dropped into a deep well. Perhaps, then, I am only looking at the surface of the water from a distance, still holding the stone in my hand? When what is really required is to go all the way and jump, like Alice.

Reading her — in a book that is more a meditation woven from the thoughts of a painter than a story, which I find immensely appealing — you can clearly feel that she wants to surrender herself entirely to writing. She wants to cross every boundary, to unfasten every safety belt in order to pass beyond the "impossible", because for Lispector "the word is the fourth dimension", and it is this dimension she wants to experience — "from each instant I want to squeeze the juice of its fruit."

Meanwhile, I wrap myself in words like a warm blanket on an already chilly autumn evening, like some sort of Softie. And I am left with a longing for I don't quite know what.

I can also take comfort in another of her thoughts: that "sometimes writing a single line is enough to save your own heart."

So I save myself, once again — not with a pen, but with a nib pen — leaving behind a print. And yet Lispector has touched a string somewhere inside me, the one connected to the seed of my existence, awakening a desire to be a little reckless too.

I wonder what might be born of it?

And then, at the very end, I laugh out loud, because suddenly things have become dangerous after all.

Ah, these writers...

For now, with love, and until next time,

Your Softie.

You will find me there too ----> I post my older works there, especially on Facebook .
